Dry & Wet Labs

Our SST program (Surgical Skills Transfer) surgical simulation and training offers an opportunity to transfer the experiences of experts and practice surgical skills outside of the operating room environment. There is enormous potential to address patient safety and risk management concerns.

By practicing on the same day, theoretical learning can be converted into practical performance. Pre-operative to post-operative considerations are taught in detail. Technology and techniques are explained and demonstrated, enabling the simulation of surgeries and the management of complications. Trainees will be better prepared to optimize outcomes.

Level 1: Basic Training

1st Day / Part I

Theoretical Program:

  • Phaco Dynamic
  • s Practical Lectures
  • Maneuvering and Instruments Manipulation

  • Theoretical Knowledge
  • Practical Knowledge

Practical Program:

  • Session I: Dry-Lab: Capsulorhexis
    • Following up step by step (capsulorhexis techniques) and challenges using all the required instruments in different techniques.
  • Session II: Wet-Lab: Phaco Surgery Basic Skills
    • Phaco surgery step by step with nucleus management, chopping, irrigation & aspiration, and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.
    • Using very special eyes and tools which are very similar to human eyes, allowing the simulation of real situations and mastering the techniques.

Level 2: Advanced Training

2nd Day / Part II

Theoretical Program:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in cataract surgery as well as advanced surgical techniques according to different grades of cataract.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of each surgical step with its tips and tricks to achieve the best outcome.
  • Learn about types of chopping, tips and tricks of surgical steps, irrigation & aspiration, and premium IOLs implantation.

Tips and Tricks

  • Incision & paracentesis technique, the secret to a perfect capsulorhexis, hydrodissection & hydrodelineation, types of cataracts
  • Types of phaco techniques, types of chopping & eating, irrigation & aspiration techniques
  • IOL Implantation

Wet-Lab Session: Performing all the surgical steps of phaco surgery - Advanced Skills

3rd Day / Part III

Theoretical Program:

  • Address complex cataract surgery cases that require management of intra-operative complications using techniques such as PCR, anterior vitrectomy, pars plana vitrectomy in detail step by step, small pupil management, pupillary hooks, and zonular dehiscence, rings, or capsular tension rings.

Wet-Lab Session: Phaco Surgery Advanced Skills with Management of Difficulties

  • Use special Japanese artificial eyes that are very similar to human eyes with different grades of cataracts, and animal eyes for the rules of corneal incisions to help learn this critical step of cataract surgery.
